If your having trouble like i did when i couldn’t log into my Verizon Fios router. Make sure you have the Actiontec M1424WR Router/Modem. Do the following:
- Press Reset Button on Router
- Then Turn Off Router… wait 20 seconds… then turn back on
- Type in this ip into your web browser – 192.168.1.1
- ID: admin Pass: password1
If this doesn’t work please let me know and i will help you.
Tried as you described, no luck. The password field has multiple characters appear for each one I type. Looks like a new firmware push has FUBAR’d the MI424-WR. Any ideas?
When you type the password and the multiple characters appear for each letter you type is normal. Try these and let me know if they don’t work:
ID:
Admin
admin
Administrator
administrator
Pass:
Password
password
Password1
password1
I tried all your above suggestions and couldn’t get access with any of the combos above. Any other thoughts? This is my first real annoyance with Fios. 🙂
make sure you hit the reset button on the router and afterwards turn it off for 20 seconds then turn it back on and try the passwords again.
Thanks, CBuck. Your tip got me in to my router. But, when I try to reset the username and password, I can’t log in with the new login information– I have to reset and go back to the default.
I’m also getting the multiple characters in the password. Has anyone been able to modify the login information?
Thanks.
when you log in, you should be able to change your password. And the multiple characters is permanent, its there so anyone around you can’t guess how many characters are in your password.
CBuck, what did you do once you were in the router page to get your 360 to work? I have had issues with it for over a month now. It absolutely sucks man.
Keep your 360 on and it will show another program trying to connect to the router and all you have to do is allow it to access the router.
Kudos!! thanks a lot this helped me out more than Verizon
That didn’t work Please help me
login: admin

This is after resetting the router. I haven’t tried changing the login and password settings, so I have no advice for onevote.
You have to hold down the reset button for 10 seconds.
Google “Resetting your Actiontec MI424WR router to the factory defaults” – you will have to view the cached page because Verizon does not have it posted anymore (I can’t find it anyway.)
Pasted from an article on Verizon’s support sight:
1. With the power on (Power LED on front panel should be lit green), use the pointed end of a paper clip to press and hold the Reset button for 10 seconds.
2. Release the Reset button. The Actiontec router will automatically reboot itself.
3. Wait 15 seconds before resuming setup.
4. To reconfigure your home network, begin with Step 4.
Note: Your router’s default settings are included on a sticker on the bottom of your Actiontec router. You will need to use these settings to reconfigure your home network.
When I performed the procedure above, I was prompted to register a new password when I pointed my browser to 192.168.1.1 .
first of all in most routers Ive dealt with the username is admin, password is admin.ive had many different and this seems to be the general them good luck.
Ok. I solved the “multiple characters” problem by pasting the password into the field instead of typing it.
And for the record….it was password1 (lowercase).
Chuck…thanks for setting up this blog. I can’t even imagine how unhelpful Verizon would be in solving this problem.
The douchebags who installed the Verizon branded wireless router didn’t even leave any paperwork (e.g. user manual….FAQs….quick start guide, etc.)
Apparently Verizon only contracts with people proven to be utter douchebags.

i couldn’t remember my login info so i followed your instructions. all the parental controls were reset but now i can’t login w/ any of the combinations you provided?
I can’t seem to be able to even reset the router. I’ve tried it several different ways. I tried hitting the reset for thirty seconds while the power was on, while the power was off, while the power cord was plugged in, and while the cord was unplugged. Toggled the power button while pressing the reset and pulling the power cord in and out…And I’ve done all of this for about 45 seconds to a minute each time I made a change. Basically I’ve been hitting this thing with brute force. What am I doing wrong???
Just talked to a rep. If you’re having problems logging in, before rebooting try using the router’s serial number as the password.
Thanks, it worked right away
the Verizon activation didn’t allow me to down load the software
Internet 1 : tech support 0 as usual
the password is just password
the username is still admin
fyi
if i reset the router then used the configuration file to restore it will i have the same or different login user name and password?
Router programmers are one braincell above an amoeba and network programmers have to be the most inept sorry bunch of losers in the entire world.
Net”NO”work …. networks never work because they are designed and built by losers.
The new routers are
username: admin
password: (on a sticker underneath the router i.e. Login Password: T7*98233)

Fios Customer service is garbage. They told me the the username was -admin, and the password was – admin.
They seemed upset that I even asked on how to change the network name and password after I was forced to reset the router because I had not internet service, which was the reason I called.
After further research, the password for the router was listed on the label on the side of the router- MM1rTZ#@, hope that helps somebody, because Fios won’t.

Well, it has nothing to do with the Texas Rice Festival, and everything to do with something at work. I really didn’t mean to lead anyone to believe that I was upset about something at the TRF. My main concern was dealt with somewhat in my next post, even though it wasn’t the primary reason behind the post. Click http://link.mx/hool08200
